 Qualification: A Bachelor of Laws of a University established by Law in India; OR A Barrister of England or Northern Ireland or a member of the faculty of Advocates in Scotland or holding any other equivalent law degree recognized by the Government of India.

 Age: As on 01.01.2011

  1. Minimum = 18 years
  2. Maximum = 35 years

Must be a Permanent resident of the J&K State as defined in Section 6 of J&K Constitution.

Documents to be attached with the photocopy of Application Form:

The following documents/testimonials duly attested by the Ist Class Magistrate under his official seal and stamp should be attached with the photocopy of the Application Form: -

  1. Matriculate or Secondary School certificate as proof of date of birth;
  2. University certificates showing that he holds requisite minimum educational qualification as prescribed;
  3.  Certificates of good character from the Principal of the College in which he was last educated and from two responsible persons of status (not  relatives), who are well acquainted with him in private life, and are unconnected with his university, College or School life;
  4. d. Permanent Resident Certificate; and
  5. e. Category certificate, if any, issued under SRO 294 of 2005 dated21.10.2005 duly revalidated and valid on the last date of receipt of Application Form.

 Examination Fee: Examination fee of Rs.700/- (Rs.350/- for reserved categories) (Excluding the processing charges of Rs.10/-) to be paid in cash through the counters of J&K Bank opened in PSC offices, Jammu/Srinagar.


Syllabus for the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service Examination (Judicial)


(i)  Each paper carries 100 marks.
(ii) Time for each paper is three hours.

a)      English Essay.
b)      Translation from English into Urdu or Hindi and vice versa.
c)       Precis.

(a)    General Knowledge.
(b)   Indian Constitution Law and Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir State.

Paper III:
(a)    Criminal Procedure Code.
(b)   Evidence Act.
(c)    Ranbir Panel Code.

Paper IV:
(a)    Financial Code Volume I & II.
(b)   Kashmir Service Regulation Chapters III to XIII and XXII and XXIII.
(c)    Rules and orders for the guidance of Subordinate Courts (Civil and Criminal) and Circular orders issued by the High Court.

Paper V:
(a)    Civil Procedure Code.
(b)   Limitation Act.
(c)    Jammu and Kashmir Registration Act.

Paper VI:
(a)    Transfer of Property Act.
(b)   Right of Prior Purchase Act.
(c)    Houses and Shops Rent Control Act.


Paper I:
(a)    Hindu Law.
(b)   Mohamadan Law.
(c)    Coustomary Law of the State.

Paper II:
(a)    Law of Companies.
(b)   Insurance Law.

Paper III:
(a)    Principles of Equity including the Law of Trusts and specific Relief.

Paper IV:
(a)    Jammu and Kashmir Contract Act.
(b)   Law of Torts.

Paper V:
(a)    Suits Valuation Act.
(b)   Court Fee Act.
(c)    Stamp Act.
(d)   Agriculture Relief Act.
(e)   Excise Act and Rules.

Paper VI:
(a)    Land Revenue Act.
